Laser Removal & Reduction F. A. Q...
How does laser removal work?
The laser fires an intense, short pulse of light through the skin and into the tattoo pigment which then heats up causing the tattoo particles to expand and shatter into smaller fragments.
These fragments are then small enough for the body's own immune system to flush away.
Does laser removal hurt?
Most people would describe it as similar to being flicked with an elastic band or pricked with a pin. It's uncomfortable, but bearable and the discomfort will be quickly alleviated with the aid of ice packs and Aloe vera gel.
Does laser removal cause any scarring or side effects?
The treatment doesn't leave any scarring to the skin as it only effects the tattoo pigment.
It can however leave the area red, swollen and tender for a couple of days.
Other side effects include blistering, pin bleeding, hypopigmentation (slight lightening of the skin) and hyperpigmentation (slight darkening of the skin) although these are rare.
How much does laser removal cost?
The price is dependant on the size of the tattoo and the desired results.
We start at just £45 per session or we can offer you a one off fee for your tattoo which will cover you until the end of your treatment.
How many treatments are neccessary?
This is totally dependant on what results you desire.
For complete removal you could be looking at 10 + treatments.
However, for a major reduction (usually for cover up purposes) you may only be looking at 2-8 treatments.
Treatments are spaced roughly 6-8 weeks apart.
Sadly these are just estimates and we can't guarentee how many treatments you'll need.
What results am I likely to experience?
The likely results are a massive reduction of the visibilty of your tattoo, especially on darker colours (blacks and dark blues) and reds.
Some colours are harder to remove such as greens and browns..
Sadly we can't guarentee the results, especially complete removal as it depends largely on your body.
What aftercare would you recommend?
We recommend a soothing aloe vera gel for the first 3-4 days followed by a sensative moisturiser for the next week.
The aloe vera will sooth any blistering or tenderness immediately after the treatment and the moisturiser will help stop the skin becoming dry afterwards.
We sell aloe vera gel for £3.50 or you can buy it from any good chemist.
What has changed since the deregulation of tattoo removal lasers?
The deregulation of tattoo removal lasers means that anyone can own one with or without the necessary training and laser saftey certification. This has also opened up the market for bad quality lasers which can either have no results at all or cause problems.
We strongly suggest that you ask your studio to see certification and information on their machine as class 4 lasers can be dangerous.
